50kW Wind Project at LEED Platinum High School
Service Category: Wind
Market Sector: Industrial/Manufacturing/Commercial
Region: United States/Canada
Key Objective
Kiowa County School District sought an economically viable renewable energy solution to save on utility expenses and support their LEED Platinum ambitions.
Our role in project:
HTWN managed a complete “Turn Key” solution for the Kiowa County School District. In doing so, the following details were addressed.
- Pre-Sale Economic Modeling and Project Validation:
- During this phase preliminary assumptions and models were made and then verified through a series of structured and measured processes. The summary of the processes indicated that all components were in place for a very successful project.
- Equipment Sales and Procurement
- All contracts were drawn and processed by HTWN followed by the ordering and acquisition of the turbine, tower and supplemental equipment.
- Negotiated Interconnection Documents with Utility
- Communicated with the municipal utility provider to understand, satisfy and complete the provisions of the interconnection agreement.
- Project Management of;
- Geotechnical and Foundation Design Engineering – All elements of these processes were ordered, followed to completion and delivered to appropriate construction teams.
- Construction Management – All components from building permit acquisition, scheduling, on-site supervision and regulatory compliance was included.
- Commissioning Assistance – Provided technical personnel to assist manufacturer’s representatives in commissioning process.
- Short and Long Term Maintenance
- HTWN’s Technical Department supports this project for scheduled and unscheduled maintenance as needed.
Results:
Kiowa County School District is very excited to have the turbine contributing mightily to their energy needs. To date, the 50kW Endurance E3120 has provided up to 75% of the schools needs in a given month. This Kiowa County turbine is the highest producing Endurance E3120 in the world at this time. Superintendent Darin Headrick commented that “If given the choice to do it all again; I wouldn’t change a thing”!
